Yu Kan-Ping (b.1950) is a retired Taiwanese fiction and documentary film and television director and screenwriter, who now works as a Professor at the Chungyu University of Film and the Arts. His works show a strong sympathy for working-class people, and a profound concern for the emotional connection between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. In this film, Yu chose 6 young heterosexual actors to play the gay teenage characters, and cast the famous Taiwanese comic Sun Yue in the role of Mr. Yang, thereby blending humour and tragedy.
